The Spellbinder has always been crafted with the idea that wine is meant to be paired with food and shared with friends, and this vintage is no different. Although this wine will certainly age gracefully, it is already approachable and will make a great table companion to roasted meats, pasta and poultry dishes.
The Magician 2012
Wine Club Price per bottle $13.50
The 1012 Magician is 100% Riesling from Evergreen Vineyard, located on the cliffs high above the Columbia River in the middle of Washington State. Evergreen has established itself as the premier vineyard site for cool climate varietals, and this wine is a testament to that. 2012 was a warm vintage, but Evergreen's location mitigates the heat that helps allow for extra hang time for the grapes, which menas more flavor, while maintaining the beautiful acidity that is the framework for this wine. Bright, crisp and juicy are the hallmarks of this Riesling, full of green apple and pear notes, juicy minerality, and refreshing citrus notes. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by the acids, and if there were a perfect wine for spicy foods, this is the one!

February Wines of the Month - Long Shadows Wineries and Vineyards
After twenty years at the helm of the Stimson Lane wine group (Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Crest and other wineries), Allen Shoup retired to pursue a personal dream. His vision is now unfolding. Long Shadows winemaker-partners are designing world-class wines comparable in stature to those they crafted in their native wine regions. October Wines of the Month - Terra Blanca
In the early 1990s, Napa land prices were exploding, Paso Robles was starting to look like a great alternative and only a small number of wine cognoscenti had ever even heard of wines from the state of Washington. A handful of amateur winemakers, inspired by and following the guidance of Dr. Walter Clore, had been experimenting with wine grapes on Red Mountain since the late ‘70s. While on a business trip to this region in the early 90s, Keith had a chance to taste some of the fruit while walking through a Red Mountain vineyard.Keith investigated the Red Mountain area because, as a geologist, he was knowledgeable about the geology in the area. Upon visiting Red Mountain he was impressed with the concentration and depth of the fruit produced. Keith and ReNae purchased the first parcels of land on Red Mountain in 1992 and began developing the property in 1993. They added roads and wells in 1993 and progress was so rapid it allowed the first 40 acres of vines to be planted as well. By the autumn of 1993, Terra Blanca had its first crush with purchased fruit.

August Wines of the Month - Sparkman Cellars
Inspired by the birth of our first daughter Stella Mae (and later, her sister Ruby Leigh), we decided to have a life focused on family. Having just become new parents, we took some time to think about what our priorities and goals were, and how to at-tain those goals. After plenty of family conversation, a winery seemed to make sense. We are privileged to have enduring relationships with the Pacific Northwest’s finest growers and winemakers from many years in the restaurant community, many who have become great friends. With all that support, and even more from our par-ents, we started our little winery in 2004. Our style produces artisan handcrafted award-winning wines, some of them highly sought after. Contributing to our commu-nity and to causes that resonate with our family are another way that the wine world helps make our lives rich. In the future we hope to be known for the outlandish things we do in far away sunny places.

The nose is wild with violets, French vanilla, milk chocolate, and cassis. A rich supple texture exudes black cherry, mocha and subtle sweet oak. Showy as ever, this will mature and become more complex as it enters adolescence and the dating years...
2009 Kingpin Cabernet
Wine Club Price $51.00
Wanna whole lotta love? Sitting in Klipsun Vineyard sometimes you might just think you hear Black Dog rolling out of the vines. It's the Led Zeppelin of Washington vineyards. We added a little Petit Verdot from Double Canyon Vineyard for spice. This version is truffly and forest floorish, super rich and burly, with black fruits and spice all nicely balanced around sweet and subtle vanilla oak. Will rock on until Robert Plant is in a wheelchair. Maybe longer...
These wines are in very limited supply so we are limiting orders to three bottles of each varietal per person. After August 16th the remaining supply will be released to sell with no limits.

June Wines of the Month - Cakebread Cellars
Over 39 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book and while there, he casually mentioned his interest in one day owning a vineyard to some family friends who had a ranch in Rutherford. When he returned home that afternoon, the phone rang and it was the family friends offering to sell their property. He headed back up to the valley that same afternoon to make his best offer, and Cakebread Cellars was born. As the Cakebread family reflects upon the many profound changes in the wine industry over the last 38 years, such as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers, they note that their key values have remained the same. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.

May Wines of the Month - Stanton Vineyards
One of my favorite stops on our recent trip through Napa Valley was Doug Stanton’s St. Helena vineyard. Not only was it the most peaceful setting we visited but I tasted the best wine I had all weekend— Stanton Vineyards Petite Sirah. I came home with mixed case of the Petite Sirah and the Estate Cabernet (it was also excellent) which I am excited to share with our Wine Club. The Stanton family have been growing grapes in Napa Valley since 1947 and have been making wine since 1999. Their three vineyards have supplied some of the best wineries in the valley with grapes—Joseph Phelps, Del Dotto and Stag’s Leap Winery just to name a few. Doug Stanton has award winning winemaker Dave Phinney, of Orin Swift fame, making his wines and the marriage between these two masters of their craft results in two truly amazing wines
Stanton Vineyards Cabernet
Wine Club Price per bottle $59.00
The Oakville appellation in Napa Valley has long been recognized as a unique combination of soil, topography and climate that join together to create an environment optimal to producing world class Cabernet Sauvignon. For over 40 years the Stanton Family has grown exceptional cabernet grapes on their 42-acre Oakville vineyard. Beginning in 1999, they have sourced fruit from a small section of this vineyard to produce a limited number of cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2009 growing conditions were ideal. The result: a wine that is intensely concentrated with expressive aromas of ripe cassis, blackberry and blueberry, masterfully integrated with 50% new French oak by winemaker Dave Phinney.
Stanton Vineyards Petite Sirah
Wine Club Price per bottle $37.00
Consistent and loyal fans of Stanton Petite Sirah will not be disappointed with this 2009 offering. This fruit-driven Petite Sirah is every bit as rich, opulent and structured as previous Stanton Petite Sirahs. Its dark, brooding texture is masterfully integrated to allow the chocolate berry fruit to shine bright against the nice oak finish. Another success from wine grower Doug Stanton and winemaker Dave Phinney. We hope you enjoy drinking our wine as much as we enjoyed growing and producing it for you!
April Wines of the Month - Spring Valley Vineyard
The land that the Corkrum, Derby, and Elvin families farm today is rich with history dating back to the mid 1800’s, when current vineyard owner Shari Corkrum Derby’s grandfather Uriah Corkrum began farming in the area. Uriah experienced success farming in the 1880’s but unfortunately lost everything in the first great depression of 1893. He persevered though and acquired the land now known as Spring Valley in 1910.
In 1993, Shari and Dean Derby planted the first grapes at Spring Valley. The first vintage of Estate grown and bottled Spring Valley Vineyard wines were produced with the 1999 vintage. The Derbys’ son Devin Corkrum Derby served as winemaker until his untimely death in 2004. Devin’s assistant and friend Serge Laville took over as winemaker and continues the legacy of Spring Valley Vineyard.

February Wines of the Month - Reininger Walla Walla Valley Wintery
Prior to making high-quality wines in the Walla Walla Valley, Chuck Reininger could be found high atop mountains as a senior climbing guide for a Tacoma based company. Prior to moving to Walla Walla, Chuck helped long-time friends with crush at Waterbrook winery. He began experimenting with home winemaking in 1993 and officially caught the “wine bug.” His weekend hobby quickly turned into a dream to produce super-premium wines of his own: “I became obsessed with starting my own winery,” he admits. In 1997, Chuck and Tracy Reininger launched their dream – owning a premiere winery in the Walla Walla Valley.
